Fast Sunday

Here's how it usually works for me, the convert:

Still coming out of a deep sleep, I realize how hungry I am.  Dinners on Saturday nights are usually hit and miss, due to our schedule.  Not to worry, I'm thinking of the bacon, hash browns, eggs and especially the pancakes that are calling me from the kitchen.  Sounds amazing.  Lee is waking up too, and I ask him what he thinks of my idea for breakfast.  "Breakfast?", he says. "You mean dinner, right?"  Then he smiles. Big. He already knows I've forgotten it  is Fast Sunday and is trying to smother his laughter at my upcoming reaction.  He doesn't have to say anything now, I've figured it out and just say, "Is it....?" with my voice filled with fear, panic and dread.
Well, let's think this through before crying.  I might be able to sit by a family in church that have lots of small children; they ALWAYS bring snacks for the kiddies.  Then maybe today's Relief Society meeting will be taught by Alida; she ALWAYS brings treats.  I can swallow my gum.  Sigh...

Maybe today wouldn't be such a good day to give me all of your recipes.  I truly believe fasting can bring powerful blessings.  It's painfully obvious I'm not very good at it.  When I first converted, I whined to Bishop Richardson, "But I really feel my prayers are much, much much, much more sincere and heartfelt with a FULL stomach!"   Oh, and let's not forget the time I had scheduled a committee meeting at my house one Sunday (church time was at 1:00 p.m.)  I not only forgot it was Fast Sunday, I forgot about the meeting.  When the doorbell rang, I made Lee answer the door as I was still in my robe, cooking breakfast. Totally busted.  Meeting rescheduled.  Committee members laughing all the way home.

So, today I pray.

Have a great day, sisters!
